Spiritual Foundations of Meditation
The Seven Chakras
The chakra system is an ancient framework for understanding human energy. Seven main energy centers run along the spine, each governing different aspects of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
- Root Chakra (Muladhara): Grounding, safety, and survival instincts
- Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): Creativity, emotions, and sensuality
- Solar Plexus (Manipura): Personal power, confidence, and will
- Heart Chakra (Anahata): Love, compassion, and connection
- Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Communication and self-expression
- Third Eye (Ajna): Intuition, insight, and inner wisdom
- Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Spiritual connection and enlightenment
Universal Energy Principles
Many spiritual traditions describe a universal life force energy: Prana in Hindu tradition, Chi/Qi in Chinese medicine, Ki in Japanese healing arts. Meditation practices help cultivate awareness of and connection to this energy.
